About police support volunteers

Police Support Volunteers (PSVs) are ‘individuals who generously contribute their time, skills, and experience to support policing activities. Their involvement enhances the delivery of policing services and increases community confidence by providing additional capacity and specialist expertise.’

They offer their time and energy for the benefit of policing and communities, without the expectation of financial reward, and are vetted, trained, supported, and directed by the police service.

PSVs engage in tasks that support local policing priorities, help enhance service delivery and reduce overall demand. Volunteers provide additional logistical low-level support, foster community relations, and free up time for officers and staff in paid roles to focus their efforts in delivering an effective police service.

• administrative support to departments
• role playing as part of new police officer training
• heritage and archives support
• chaplaincy and welfare support
• cadet leaders
• victim support and engagement
• neighbourhood policing support
