Protecting Vulnerable People Admin Support Volunteer (Ref: 69)

Purpose 

The Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) department is made up of a team of specialist detectives who deal with a wide range of offences including rape and serious sexual offences of children and adults and child abuse in general. They take responsibility for these from an early stage right through to trial, working with other departments throughout.

There needs to be a great attention to detail within the team due to the varied nature of the work and the large numbers of witnesses and members of the public they come into contact with.

By providing administrative support to the team, a volunteer would be able to assist officers with their investigations which would result in an enhanced service to the public.

Please note this role may require reading of information that on occasions can contain potentially distressing information.

What you will be doing

Roles and tasks may vary, but will include:

• Reviewing and gathering of CCTV footage
• Transportation of urgent forensic/case material
• Computer database admin including redaction and reviewing of case material
• General administrative duties for the team
• Completion of victim and witness statements
• House to house and general witness enquiries
• Vehicle checks

Skills, experience, and qualities needed

You will need to be confident when communicating with a wide range of people both in person and in writing.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Word is desirable although onsite training will be provided if necessary.

A willingness and commitment to learn new skills is also important.

Location and times

The role will be based at a Police Station with days and times to be agreed. The role will require a regular commitment of at least 4 hours per week, however hours can be flexible to suit the volunteer’s availability.

PVP teams are based at the following Police Stations – Boston, Skegness, Lincoln, and Grantham

• Support of a local line manager and the Volunteer Team at Police HQ
• Access to health and wellbeing provision and support

Other information

• Expenses incurred as a result of the role will be paid at the relevant rate
• Volunteers must be over 18
• The role requires a security check (vetting)
• Volunteers are asked to sign an agreement to maintain confidentiality, as you may have access to sensitive material
