Your first day in a new job can be daunting so to put you at ease, here we give you all the essential information about your first day so you can be as prepared as you can be.
We recognise that each person and each role will have different needs during induction period. With this in mind, the information here is fairly generic, but your manager will take an active role with your induction into your job and department. They will work through an induction checklist with you, which should meet your induction needs and they will be able to answer specific questions relating to you and your role.
You should bring with you:
If your role is a uniformed role, then you should arrive on your first day in your supplied uniform.
For all other staff roles, you should wear smart work attire when working in police buildings or public-facing environments and adhere to our Appearance Standards policy.
Your offer pack should detail the general location of your job. It should also detail the location you should attend on your first day (if different) and start time.
Staff parking is available at all force stations but may be limited. Contact your line manager if you have queries about local parking arrangements.
You should report to reception on your first day. Your line manager or nominated person should greet you and welcome
Your access card should be ready for you and will be given to you by our line manager. You can use this card to enter your place of work. Depending on your access requirements, your card may be configured so you can access other police buildings too.
Your line manager (or nominated person) will introduce you to your colleagues and give you a tour of the building you work in to ensure you know how to find your way around. They will also show you where to find:
You will need to provide the Payroll department with your P45 and bank details at your earliest opportunity. This is a priority for your first day to ensure you can be paid.
If you do not have your P45, the Payroll team will ask you to complete a starter form to set up your payroll details.
You can provide your bank details via the Payroll Form that was provided.
You can deliver these documents in person to the Payroll Team at HQ, or you can email it (from your Lincolnshire Police email address only).
Lunch breaks for police staff are not paid. Your contract will state how long you receive each day as a break. Your line manager will be able to discuss arrangements with you around when you take your lunch break and if this needs to align to other members of your team for example.
At Force HQ there is a canteen that is open weekdays from 8am to 3pm serving breakfasts, hot and cold snacks and lunch.
Your email account, intranet profile and access to all appropriate IT systems will be set up for you ahead of your first day.
Your line manager will show you around the basic systems you will need and the bespoke systems you require for your role.
Your working hours should be detailed in your offer pack.
As part of your role, you are required to book on and book off at the beginning and end of every working day. The reason for this is to ensure an accurate log of all time worked, to comply with working time regulations.
Your line manager will show you how to use the Book On, Book Off system and should be your first point of contact with any queries.
