The police officer training programme is known as the Professional Policing Practice Diploma (PPPD). This programme has been quality assured by independent assessors to national standards and is delivered locally in Lincolnshire.
Your training period as a student police officer lasts two years and is known as your probation.
During this time you will complete a Diploma in Policing. The programme is community-focused and you will learn about the communities that you will be working with. You will also be given appropriate training to develop your skills and knowledge to become a competent police officer.
The Classroom Phase of your training will be more than 100 days which includes an Induction Module and 9 modules as follows:
Running through the modules are the Golden Threads which include Understanding the Role of a Police Constable, Maintaining Professional Standards, Communications Skills, Wellbeing and Resilience, Leadership and Team Working and Criminal Justice.
You will learn about the police service and policing issues, including being formally ‘attested’ as a constable. You will also gain a valuable insight into community groups, partner agencies and identify how we can assist each other in our respective roles. You will have opportunities to apply learning in practical scenarios, some of which will be in community settings. Core-policing skills will be developed as well as supporting knowledge and understanding.
This is undertaken on your District where you will be allocated a tutor constable, who will tutor your development and assist you to manage your workload.
This phase is operationally-based, consisting of street patrol and other relevant attachments. The Tutor phase is a minimum of 40 shifts (including day, evening and night shifts).
Independent patrol is reached once you have demonstrated your ability to deal competently with a number of pre-defined actions from the Police Action Checklist (PAC).
During the independent phase, you will undertake some internal attachments, as well as completing your diploma (this is a national requirement). This phase takes place during the remainder of your 2-year probation. You will also complete your three-week standard driving course at some point after achieving independent patrol status.
