Lincolnshire lies in the East Midlands bordering Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and - for just 19 metres - Northamptonshire!

Lincolnshire is as diverse a county as it is geographically large. Much of the county is rural in nature, consisting of both remote countryside and coastal areas.

The City of Lincoln, with a population of over 100,000, has lively modern entertainment and a shopping area in the lower part and the historical 'uphill' area with pubs, cafes, appealing shops and eateries all set in the shadow of the world-renowned castle and cathedral.

The city also hosts an annual Christmas market, which attracts thousands of visitors from around the UK and beyond every year.

The east of the county is home to our classic coast, with glorious sandy beaches - Skegness, Mablethorpe, Cleethorpes and Sutton-on-Sea have all met Blue Flag standards for cleanliness and have been ranked amongst the best beaches in the world. Famous for their leisure attractions and holidays, the coast's population increasing dramatically over the summer months.

Those who enjoy a day at the races often visit Market Rasen racecourse, while Lincolnshire Agricultural Show draws in crowds of 30,000 a day. 

Running north and south through our county, the Lincolnshire Wolds provides delightful secluded walks or cycle rides. So if you are in a car, on a bike or on foot you can enjoy a more relaxed pace of life. 

With lots of major transport links into and around the county, Lincolnshire is increasingly accessible. As the second largest county in England there is plenty of space to enjoy yourself.

With an area of 2,284 square miles, Lincolnshire is one of the largest geographical counties in England. We also continue to work together with a variety of other agencies including Social Services, the Crown Prosecution Service, county and district councils, other police forces, the Highways Agency, G4S and the Probation Service to name just a few.

For police purposes, Lincolnshire is divided into local policing sectors.

These reflect local geographic communities and give the police the opportunity to address local problems at source.

Our Force Headquarters at Nettleham, near Lincoln, gives direction and support to enable the divisions to police within the framework of national, as well as local plans. It also houses the Force Control Room, our Learning and Development team, Human Resource, Finance and many other specialist departments.
