The city of Lincoln is home to around 100,000 people; a thriving student population; and host to visitors to both the historic city by day and the vibrant pubs and clubs by night. The county town is governed by the City of Lincoln Council. It is home to the University of Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste University and Lincoln City Football Club. Within the city boundary are His Majesty’s Prison Lincoln, a category B men’s prison housing up to 650 inmates as well as one of the two major hospitals for the county, Lincoln County Hospital.
The majority of policing within the city is done from the tri-service station on South Park Avenue where police, fire and ambulance teams share a building and the facilities within it. The station is home to the custody suite which can house up to twenty-two detainees at any one time. Teams of response officers cover calls for service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Our teams of neighbourhood policing officers are led by two neighbourhood policing inspectors and four sergeants. The city is broken down into eleven wards with named neighbourhood police officers assigned to each. The five wards evidenced to be most at risk each have an allocation of two police community support officers.
Also based at South Park Station are several teams of investigators responsible for volume crime, serious crime and crimes against children and vulnerable people as well as dedicated intelligence officers. We are also able to draw on support from countywide teams such as armed response officers, dog handlers, traffic officers and economic crime investigators.
The neighbourhood policing team has strong links with all sorts of organisations and other agencies forming local partnerships. Some of these partners collaborate with us in the same office but all help us deal effectively with crime and disorder issues, solve short-term and long-term problems, and support victims.
In 2024 we will work hard with the communities of Lincoln and other agencies to make Lincoln the safest place to live, work and visit.
