A misconduct hearing, directed by the IOPC, was held on 7 and 8 January 25 at Bishop Grosseteste University for former Inspector Jonathan Mellor who was based at Grantham police station. Former Inspector Mellor was found to have breached the following standard of professional behaviour:
It was found that on the 26 May 2021 the officer breached the standards of professional behaviour when he used unwarranted and deliberate force and that his conduct was disrespectful, abusive and threatening.
The Chair of the independent panel found the breaches proven and that it amounted to gross misconduct.
The outcome of the hearing was that former Inspector Jonathan Mellor would have been dismissed without notice had he not already retired.
The Presiding Officer’s report will be added to this notice when it is available.
