One of our officers spoke about his own mental health to a man on a listening walk

Fraser McGruer, a photographer and multimedia producer, is creating an audio documentary exploring mental health in rural Lincolnshire; something close to our hearts. He describes how he is walking between towns and wellbeing hubs. Fraser is recording conversations with people he meets along the way, volunteers, carers and those living with mental health challenges.

He came across our very own PC Martin Green while the officer was checking woodland hiding places where stolen plant machinery had previously been found.  

When we asked PC Green about his encounter, he said: “We talked for a good half hour.  We spoke about all sort of things police wise but then he got onto the PTSD side of things.  I deal with things differently, I rant and cry and talk, I get through things that way.   It’s the ex-serviceman in me I suppose.

Daily life can be tough for police officers and staff; they can be exposed to stress, trauma and high-pressure situations which can have an impact on their mental health, just the same as many different professions and challenges in life.

The effect of their work can impact suddenly due to a particular incident or over time and can become overwhelming.  As a force we have a Health & Care team who support our officers and staff health and wellbeing.
