Update, 10am, Thursday 19 February 2026

It is with deep sadness we report the deaths of two people following the fire at an address on Manby Middlegate, Grimoldby.

A man, aged 45, and a young girl aged 11, have sadly died following the fire.

Five other people were taken to hospital, a woman in her 30s who remains in a serious condition, two men in their 40s and two children under ten have been released from hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the fire by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have confirmed the cause to be accidental and related to the use of an air fryer.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Upon arrival at the scene, crews were met with a well developed fire, which has tragically claimed the lives of two people, left another in a critical condition, and injured several others.

"Following fire investigations in conjunction with Lincolnshire Police and the regional fire investigations dog, we have determined this was started by an air fryer igniting nearby objects.

"This will be an extremely difficult time for the family, their friends, and the tight-knit community, and our thoughts and condolences go out to them all."

Original release

Emergency services were called to an address on Manby Middlegate, Grimoldby, at around 6.10 am, on Wednesday 18 February, following reports of a fire at a Chinese restaurant.

The occupants of the property have been taken to hospital, some of their injuries are described as serious.

Investigators from both Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and Lincolnshire police are on scene.  The cause of the fire has yet to be established.

Chief Superintendent Philip Baker, Head of Local Policing, said: “Our teams will be working throughout the day to establish the cause of the fire; this may take some time.  I’d ask people not to speculate as to what may have happened and to let our investigation determine the facts.

“We will update when we have further information to share.”

Incident 49 of 18 February.
