A victim of a bike theft has been reunited with his expensive cycle thanks to the eagle eyes – and excellent memory – of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Two of our officers were on patrol in their police van when one of them saw a delivery rider bike past.
He recognised the man’s face as matching images which had been circulated from the CCTV team over at the City of Lincoln Council of a man believed to have been involved in the theft of a bike from the car park in Pine Mill student accommodation.
During that incident, a secure D-lock was cut with an angle grinder and an expensive mountain bike was stolen. In the images, the man was wearing distinctive clothing. His identification hadn’t yet been uncovered, and officers were working on this as part of the investigation.
The officers quickly linked in with the live CCTV team and worked with them to track the rider to an address in the city centre.
They headed down there, and were let in to the property by the man, where they found the stolen bike, along with the angle grinder and the clothing worn by the suspect in the CCTV images.
The man, a 31-year-old, has been interviewed and admitted the offence, and best of all, the bike has been returned to the owner!
