Today is International Men’s Day and throughout today we are celebrating some of the fantastic male colleagues who make up just over half of Lincolnshire Police.
Chief Superintendent Paul Timmins, who heads up Central Operations, is on his 27th year with the force. Here, he talks about his role why he does it, and the positive male role models who inspire him.
“My role feels really special because I get to lead most of the specialism in force, get to work with some amazing people who have such a heart for service, and still feel after 27 years that my work can impact positively on those around me and our public,” he said.
“At this stage of my life and career I know this is what I was put on this earth to do. Its sounds cheesy but I look back at all the experiences I’ve had, the highs, the lows. and can see that each one makes me a better person and hopefully a better leader. I hold the office of constable very close to my heart – it is a responsibility that I genuinely feel “called to” and one which needs care and attention to ensure that when I move on, the next person can take it on further and look after it.”
Paul said there had been many role models over his lifetime but the one who really stands out for him is our current Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Davison.
“I have known Chris most of my life,” Paul said, “we were at school together, and I have seen him grow hugely as a leader and person of integrity. As a kid he was principled, kind, and always wanted to do the right thing when injustice prevailed. Time and position hasn’t changed him at all. “He is still the “strawberry blonde” boy who doesn’t care about the value society places on people but looks deep into the heart of those he comes in contact with and sees the true value of someone. He is humble, steps up when others step away and is a loyal friend.
“He cares deeply for the people of Lincolnshire and more so for those who want to serve Lincolnshire. He has never waivered from his ambition to be the best he can be and still questions his own motives and ability regularly. He is one of our biggest cheerleaders in Lincolnshire Police and I suspect will always be, long after the end of his career with us. If you get a chance to have a cuppa with him you’ll very quickly see what I mean.”
