PC Chris Jones completed the Lincoln 10K yesterday (Sunday 14 April) in an hour and a half, whilst kitted out in full protective clothing including vest, shield, helmet and protector guards.
This kit (pictured below) is two and a half stones worth of cumbersome attire and not designed for running any distance in, let alone over six miles, so this was a gruelling challenge.
An extra incentive to get to the finish line was provided by PC Jones's dad, who ran ahead dressed as a burglar.
Support, both online and in person, including from complete strangers, was phenomenal.
PC Jones said, "I want to thank all of those that supported me through this challenge for COPS including my team on the day, family, friends, colleagues and the public. I have read each and every comment on the Just Giving page and social media posts and I am simply overwhelmed with the support. The weather was the main issue yesterday but the cheering from the sidelines got me through to the end. Thank you."
PC Jones took on the challenge in order to raise money and awareness for the charity COPS (Care of Police Survivors). COPS provides peer support and access to counselling services to help surviving family members rebuild their shattered lives.
The total raised stands at £3,253 (including £591 raised in gift aid).
It's not too late to donate, visit Chris's Just Giving page.
Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty. Find out more about COPS.
