We are honoured to announce that our work in supporting those with dyslexia has been recognised with a nomination at The Inclusive Awards 2023.
Led by Hayley Measures in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team, the broad-ranging approach to those who have or have indicators of dyslexia is a key commitment of the Force.
Members of the team will attend the awards ceremony in London, on 5 December, and are featured in the Diversity Team of the Year Award category.
Hayley said: “There are some really simple things that we have done in Force to give as much support as possible to those with dyslexia.
“This has included showing people options on our Office 365 products including Read Aloud, editor and the dictate function.
“We have developed several step-by-step guides available internally that contain hints and tips, too.
“And we’ve worked with our Learning and Development and HR departments to identify people’s needs early on. In some cases we’ve begun that process before people have even formally started their career at Lincolnshire Police. We’ve also reviewed our promotions process to ensure anyone with dyslexia or other neurodivergent conditions have workplace adjustments to place them on a level playing field.
“This is all about breaking down the stigma of having dyslexia. People can confidentially self-refer and then I will assign an assessor, based on availability and location, and they stay with the person for one-to-one contact.
“We use online screening tools to discover the individual’s learning style, be it kinaesthetic, auditory or visual and we work with them to make their experience in Force as inclusive as possible.
“It’s about finding practical solutions – and helping people.”
