We’re joining police forces up and down the country to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and bravery of those who respond to calls from the public.
Led by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and supported by the College of Policing as well as local forces, Response Policing Week of Action will run from today (Monday 26 June) to Sunday (2 July).
The week provides an opportunity to highlight the difficult and vital role that response officers play in protecting the public and keeping their communities safe.
Chief Superintendent Kate Anderson said: “This week, we’re shining a spotlight on the officers who are the first to respond to danger and whom the public will initially come into contact with when they call for our help.
“For response officers, no two days are the same. They have to be prepared to deal with a vast range of incidents that can be quite complex and confrontational. It’s demanding and unpredictable work, which is why it’s only right that we highlight the tremendous efforts of response officers throughout the country in helping to keep people safe.”
Providing assistance when needed,
We’ll attend in times of stress,
Regardless of the situation when the public call,
When men, women and children are under duress.
Every day we walk the thin blue line,
With little thanks or praise,
To toe the line, to keep the peace,
A delicate balance to keep most days.
We drive our cars and vans to scenes,
Not knowing what comes next,
Is someone hurt, I hope I can help,
Our hearts beating out of our chests.
Gathering information and making arrests,
Answering calls for safety and incidents extreme.
We respond from station to station,
Responding not just to crime, but everything in between.
We step up to the challenge,
Night and day all year it can be tiring.
Facing abuse, our own woes, and sorrows,
Wearing the badge some days can be disheartening.
Despite this, we serve with courage, fairness, and a smile,
Knowing we’ve made a difference for going the extra mile.
So, spare a thought to all the boys and girls in blue,
We are all just like you.
We do the job so you’re out of harm’s way.
We risk our all for you to feel safe today.
