Lincolnshire Police are delighted to announce that the Twitter account @LincsCOPter won the award for ‘Best Social Media Account’ at the World’s Emergency Drone Conference last night!
The ceremony was hosted by the IEDO (International Emergency Drone Organization) and took place in Paris, France. The organisation has more than 700 members present in 50 countries on all continents (made up of firefighters, police officers, coast guards, customs officers, doctors, paramedics, and humanitarian & rescue associations).
Since their introduction in October 2017, the Lincolnshire Police Drone Team have become a vital part of policing and are deployed to a range of incidents across the county.
The following video shows just how crucial they can be in the detection, arrest, and conviction of suspects. In August this year our officers were pursuing a 38-year-old man who desperately tried to evade police by running across fields, and even trying to swim across a river. With state-of-the-art technology, including thermal imaging, he soon found out that there is no hiding from the Lincolnshire Police Drone Team. Our drone operators were able to track his movements and successfully guide our officers to his precise location so the arrest could be made.
This video has no sound.
Chief Drone Pilot Kev Taylor says:
“They say a picture paints a thousand words and the footage from our drones is invaluable when identifying, tracking, and ensuring criminals are brought to justice. Drones also play a vital role in locating people in immediate danger. There is great interest in what we do from the public and @LincsCOPter gives us a platform to share results, good practice and lessons learned. Importantly, social media allows the public to see that drones are a cost-effective tool for Lincolnshire Police, and they get to understand first-hand how technology is vital in modern-day policing.”
