Body found, Boston

Update, 11.30am,  16 January:

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Two men, aged 26 and 33, and a woman, aged 26, were arrested in Boston last night (15 January).

They remain in police custody.

Update, 7.30pm, 15 January:

The victim of this murder is believed to be 46-year-old Marcin Stolarek, a Polish national who lived in Boston.

Significant resources have been dedicated to the investigation, which began after we received a call on Sunday evening (12 January) reporting the discovery of a body at the pumping station on Chain Bridge Road.

We want to hear from anyone who has seen Marcin in the last four months, or who has information that could help our investigation. Even the smallest detail could be vital.

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Whiffen, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) said: “I am appealing for anyone with information about Marcin to get in touch.

“Marcin lived in Boston but also had links to Spalding, and people in those communities may have details that could prove crucial to our investigation.

“Please come forward with information so that we can bring his killer, or killers, to justice.”

Update as of 3pm, 14 January:

We are now treating this as a murder investigation.

Officers are continuing to try to establish the identity of the deceased man, who is thought to be aged between 30 and 40 years old.  It is believed that the man has died as a result of a sustained assault before offenders have disposed of the body in a waterway.

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Whiffen, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), said:

“A large number of resources have been dedicated to this investigation, including specialist underwater search teams, and forensic specialists.

“The identity of the victim is presently unknown, and our teams are working diligently to establish the circumstances of his death.

“I would ask people to look at the description of the man (below) - in particular the clothing, the unique scar on his chin, the tattoo on his right shoulder - and contact us if you think you may know his identity.

“I would encourage people to come forward and speak to us. There are several ways you can do this, including being able to provide us with information anonymously.”

Description of the deceased man:

  • Aged between 30 and 40 years old
  • 171 cm (5ft 7ins) tall
  • Weighing between 70kg and 80kg (11st to 12st 8lbs)
  • Size 9 feet
  • A 9cm scar under his chin
  • A tribal-style tattoo on his right shoulder which has started to fade
  • Dental work to the top row of his teeth

The man was also found wearing blue New Balance trainers, Puma jogging bottoms and a Fishbone branded T-Shirt.

Original release:

We were called to a location near the pumping station on Chain Bridge Road, Boston, yesterday (12 January) after the body of a man was found by a member of the public.

A call reporting the discovery of the body was made to us at 6.27pm.

Officers remain at the location, and a scene guard is in place. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Whiffen said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation into this death, and we are still trying to establish the identity of the person.

“I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us – even small details could help our enquiries.”
