Update: Boston twin boys

Update as of 4.40pm, 9 April:

Correction: please note those arrested were released on bail - not released under investigation.

Update, released on the 5 April 13:30: Sadly, one of the twin boys has since died in hospital. We are keeping an open mind around the cause of death.

As previously reported, a 27 year-old-man and a 20 year-old-woman were arrested and released under investigation.

A 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have been arrested and released under investigation.

We are investigating an incident in which two children under the age of one were taken to hospital in a life threatening condition.

We received a report that a boy was taken to hospital seriously ill at around 5pm on March 27. Later the same day, we received a report that this boy’s twin brother was also seriously ill and taken to hospital. Both remain in hospital.

At this stage it is unclear if these children have suffered a medical episode and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

A scene guard is at a property in Granville Street in Boston in connection with this investigation.

Detective inspector Lee St Quinton said: "This is clearly a sensitive case for the family involved. We are working closely with the family at this difficult time to establish the facts of the matter."

We are not in a position to release any further information at this stage and will update our news centre when we are able to provide further information.
