Does your organisation have:

1.    A dedicated wildlife crime unit

2.    How many police officers you employ whose main responsibility is wildlife crime?

Reply

1.    Yes, we have the RCAT (Rural Crime Action Team) who have enhanced Training to deal with the prevention and investigation of Wildlife Crime

2.    The RCAT is 1x Sgt plus 8x Constables (including Detectives) and an additional post covering Wildlife & Dangerous Dogs equating to 10 Officers.  In addition, we have trained a number of Local Policing Constables and Sgts with enhanced Wildlife Crime skills, though this is not their main responsibility.

 

Please also be aware that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
