For any domestic abuse related incidents or crimes on our system, it is best to provide the number of PPN DASH risk assessments completed by officers attending any type of incident/occurrence as this will give a better picture of DA reports (crime and non-crime). The completion of a PPN DASH is indicative of DA. Not all domestic incidents recorded on our Command and Control system are specifically domestic abuse as per the ACPO definition of domestic abuse (see below):
‘Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality’ (NPCC & Home Office 2013).
There are 2 questions on the PPN DASH regarding pregnancy; Are you currently pregnant? Or, Have you been in the last 18 months? The only way we can respond to this FOI is by providing the response to those questions. Unfortunately, we cannot identify miscarriage without reading each PPN which would result in excess costs.
So in response, we have extracted all PPNs for the period Sep 21 – Aug 22 and provided a breakdown of yes/no or not answered to the pregnancy related questions on the PPN DASH. It must be noted that the numbers will differ from the total as a victim may have more than one PPN on the occurrence if they have changed their response or added more detail. They may have also answered with a different response to the question on each PPN.
Please also be aware that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
