The Roads and Armed Policing Team (RAPT) provide 24/7 spontaneous firearms, taser and specialist roads policing cover for the counties of Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
Each officer is an Authorised Firearms Officer that carries a Taser. They have advanced driving and roads policing skills and are trained in undertaking pursuits.
The team use both marked and unmarked dual role high performance vehicles.
There are also specialist roles such as rifle officers, operational firearms commanders and close protection officers.
The main priorities of RAPT are:
- to reduce road casualties
- disrupting criminality
- countering terrorism
- patrolling the roads
- combating anti-social road use
