Richard was appointed a member of the Independent Advisory Group in 2017.
Born and bred in southern Africa, Richard joined the British Army in 1977 and served across the globe on operations, garrison and training duties, and exchange and loan service. He has lived in Lincolnshire since 2001. In 2003, he became one of the first Joint Regional Liaison Officers, a post created after ‘9/11’ to provide a military focal point in each UK region to represent the Armed Forces as the lead for the Defence contribution to resilience.
Richard retired in March 2017, and is enjoying the freedom and challenges that life outside the Army brings. Whilst considering options for his next career, he supports Service charities as a Trustee of ‘Launchpad’ and as a member of the Lincolnshire Committee of the Army Benevolent Fund – The Soldiers’ Charity. He is also a Parish Councillor and a member of the Rotary Club, and chairs his local Neighbourhood Police Panel.
