Road Saftey

Information and games about Road Saftey

Did you know 55 teenagers a week in the UK are killed or seriously injured on the roads?

Chatting on your mobile, listening to music, messing around with your mates there are loads of things that can distract you when you’re crossing the road.

It’s important, no matter what age you are, that you are aware of the hazards and follow some simple but important road safety advice.  It could save your life.

Always give the road your FULL attention

Top tips

  • Give the road your full attention – that means not listening to your MP3 player or talking or texting on your mobile.
  • Traffic – be aware of how fast the traffic is moving and don’t presume that drivers will stick to the speed limits.  Only cross when it’s totally safe, don’t take any chances.
  • If there’s a pavement use it.  Where there isn’t a pavement, walk so that you’re facing the traffic and stay close to the edge.
  • If you’re looking after your little brother or sister make sure you hold their hand.
  • Wear bright clothes or something reflective at night, especially when the nights are getting darker earlier.  This might be a sticker on your bag, an armband or a reflective jacket.  It’ll make it easy for other road users to see you.
  • Try not to cross between parked cars, if there isn’t anywhere else, take extra care to make sure the parked car isn’t about to take off – listen out for the engine.
  • Try to cross at a pelican crossing or at a school patrol where the lollipop lady or man will stop the traffic for you.
  • If you’re out walking your dog, make sure it’s on a lead and don’t take it anywhere where it might get easily frightened.
  • Stop, Look and Listen before crossing
