To report a crime you can either call 999 if:
- There is a life in danger
- Threat of violence
- A crime in progress
- If you think a crime is about to be committed
Or you can call the non emergency number 0300 111 0300 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if:
- A crime has been committed
- Report suspicious behaviour
- Or have information on a crime
What Happens When You Report a Crime
- 999 call received by BT operator who asks "emergency, which service"
- The operator will ask where you are calling from and the phone number
- They will then contact the relevant service and pass over the information
- The emergency service will take over the call and dispatch the relevant people.
- Depending on the seriousness of the call, the emergency service will arrive and assess the situation and report back to their control. At this point extra help or other services could be asked for.
