Police and ambulance crews were called to the bus station on St Georges Road in Boston at 1.09am this morning (Friday) following an assault on a 72 year-old man.
A 38 year-old local man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and was taken to Boston Police Station for interview.
The victim is in a serious condition at Boston Pilgrim Hospital with a head injury.
The area remains cordoned off to allow officers to continue with enquiries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who were in that area of the town last night and who may have seen the incident or any event leading up to it.
