People who get a bike for Christmas in Lincoln will be able to get a security tag fitted for free thanks to a new scheme.
Lincolnshire Police has secured funding in conjunction with Imoblilise UK to run the free service until January 31 next year.
Anyone who visits Lincoln Police Station in West Parade, Lincoln, with their new bike and a receipt proving purchase between November 2012 and January 2013 can have a tag fitted for free.
The tags themselves are fitted to the bike frame and provide a unique electronic identity, enabling officers to establish if it has been stolen and who it belongs to. To find out more click here
It is hoped the scheme will contribute to the progress being made in tackling bike theft in the city. Although the issue is ongoing, more than 50 offenders have been prosecuted this year.
