Robbery - Ladbrokes Bookmakers, Market Street, Gainsborough - Incident 328 of 18 July 2010 - Update
This robbery took place at about 5.35pm on Sunday 18 July at Ladbrokes bookmakers in Market Street, Gainsborough. Two men entered the premises via the public rear entrance (they did not force entry). They were brandishing a knife and possibly a screwdriver. They escaped with an amount of cash. It is believed that the men came from the North Street car park, crossed the junction of North Street and Spital Terrace, and then crossed the Roseway car park. Police are therefore keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area between about 5.10pm and 5.40pm on Sunday 18 July. Following the robbery, the men left the premises, and went back the way they came to North Street car park, where they got into a metallic blue small car (not a Citroen Berlingo as previously reported). The offenders are described as 1) a man, 5ft 6" - 5ft 7" tall, slim build, with broad shoulders. He was wearing a rubber 'old man' style mask. This man was in possession of a black handled knife. 2) a man 5ft 8" - 5ft 9", larger build than the first, and was carrying a yellow handled screwdriver. The staff in the bookmakers were not injured, but shaken by the incident.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 0300 111 0300 quoting incident number 328 of 18 July. Alternatively call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
Jail Sentence For Woman Caught Supplying Drugs To A Prisoner
On Tuesday 20th July, Natalie Flint, aged 20, from Hickling Court, Mansfield in Nottinghamshire was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court to 12 months imprisonment for supplying cannabis to a man serving a prison sentence in HMP Lincoln. This occurred on 10 April 2010, when she was visiting an inmate. During the visit, she was caught passing an amount of cannabis to the prisoner. He was serached and the cannabis recovered. Flint was arrested, and subsequently charged with supplying drugs. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced on 20th July. Detective Inspector Simon Lovett says, "This sentence demonstrates just how serious an offence it is to supply drugs to a prisoner and I hope it will send out a message that it is not a crime that will be taken lightly". "The way Natalie Flint has been dealt with shows that we will work with the Prison Service to do everything we can catch, arrest and bring offenders to justice". "I hope this sentence will go some way towards deterring other people who think it is acceptable to bring drugs into a prison, and convince them that it is not worth even trying".

No Cold Calling Zone - The Square, Barrowby
A new ‘No Cold Calling’ zone was launched at The Square in Barrowby yesterday. PCSO Mark Barr was joined by crime prevention officer, Sally Picker, Trading Standards representatives and residents of The Square at the launch. No Cold Calling signs were put up on the lamp posts and in people’s windows and doors and launch packs were given to everyone living in the street. Mrs Picker said: “The aim of these schemes is to tackle the issue of bogus callers, distraction burglary and rogue traders. These people do prey on elderly and vulnerable people, tricking their way into their homes and either stealing from them, or charging them extortionate amounts of money for little or no work. These zones send out a clear message to the criminals to stay away, and they generally do. They know the residents in this area are aware of the issue, looking out for each other and that they will ring the police immediately if they have any suspicions. If anyone wants to set up a similar scheme in their road, or group of roads then they just need to give us a call and we will arrange it.”
Call the non emergency number and ask for details of your local crime prevention officers to set up a No Cold Calling Zone.
