Recruitment Process

Please Note: Applications will only be issued when we are recruiting for Police Community Support Officers (PCSO).

Stage 1 - Application

Your application will be initially sifted to check that you meet the eligibility to be appointed as a PCSO. If you do not meet the eligibility your application will be rejected. Please check that you are eligible to apply before requesting or completing the application pack.

The Job Description & Person Specification details the experience, skills and qualities required to become a PCSO. Your application form will be shortlisted on the evidence that you provide in your application to meet the criteria detailed on the Person Specification.

Before completing your application form you should take the time to thoroughly read the Guidance Notes and the Job Description & Person Specification.

When completing Section 3 of your application form you should ensure that you provide examples and go into detail to evidence how you satisfy the criteria required for the role.

Before submitting your application form it is recommended that you check that you have fully completed all of the questions and that you return it to the Recruitment Team so that it is received before the closing time and date. Regrettably incomplete or late application forms will not be considered.

Stage 2 - Interview

If you are successful at the application stage you will be invited to attend an interview at Lincolnshire Police. Your interview will focus on your experience, skills and qualities and you will also be asked questions about your motivation to become a PCSO and your understanding of the role.

Some of the pre-employment checks that we complete are only valid for a period of 6 months so these are not completed more than 6 months prior to a planned intake.

To ensure best use of our resources your application will not be progressed to stage 3 until we have a predicted start date for you. If this does occur in the recruitment process you will be contacted by the Recruitment Team and advised accordingly.

Stage 3 - Medical

If you pass the interview stage, you will be required to complete a Health Questionnaire prior to attending an appointment with our Occupational Health Service in Lincoln for a medical examination, eyesight and hearing test.

You will be required to meet the medical standards to become a PCSO. Although there is no fitness test you will need to be assessed as medically capable of performing the role. This includes being able to undertake Personal Safety Training.

You must have a reasonable height/weight ratio, which is determined by the Force Physician by calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI). If your BMI is in excess of 30% you will not be passed as fit to undertake the role of PCSO. However, this assessment will be made by our Occupational Health Service staff and account will be taken of any muscle mass.

Note: It is strongly recommended that you consult your Doctor before commencing any programme or diet to reduce your weight.

Stage 4 - Pre-employment Checks

If you successfully pass the medical assessment we will conduct comprehensive vetting checks are request references.

Vetting - Police Checks will be conducted on yourself, your immediate family and any adult living at the same address as you. We will also request National Security Vetting and carry out financial checks.
References - We will request references. Your current employment reference will not be taken at this stage, unless you specify that they can be

Once all the necessary checks are completed we will write to you to confirm your provisional acceptance.

Your application will be held until we have confirmation of a start date as a PCSO. Your application is subject to your continued suitability and you must inform us of any changes to you personal circumstances.

Induction

When we have a date for you to commence as a PCSO you will be invited to attend an Induction Evening. You will meet the other applicants who will start on your intake and you will receive information about your initial training course.
