Compliants and Satisfaction

Diversity of Complainants

The following report has been produced in line with the quarterly Police Authority statistics and expanded to include data relating to disability, sexual orientation and complainants faith. The figures are based on the data received when the complaint is recorded.

If you would like to know how to make a complaint please use this link. How to make a Comlpaint.

The majority of complaints recorded are received from white ethnic groups, although this includes many nationalities and is why we are now looking at including nationality on the complaint form. We are continually striving to ensure that ethnic data is captured.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly the majority of complaints received are from the mid age ranges 30 – 60 which is the largest group in the county and only a small proportion are from the younger members of the county.

It can often be difficult to capture information regarding a complainant’s disability as this can be a difficult question to ask, especially with complainants with mental health issues. The information captured is also reliant on the complainants desire to divulge the information.

The data is not always known when initially recording the complaint (the complaint could have been made by letter, email, phone etc). However by the time the complaint is finalised these details would have been requested and recorded if provided. Complainants have the right to decline to provide this information.

It is only more recently that we have begun to collect data in relation to disability, religion and sexual orientation. This explains the high numbers of no data recorded figures.

Every effort is now made to capture the data and the complaint form is currently been looked at and amended to allow us to capture the nationality of complainants to enable us to gain more meaningful data which is relevant to the county.

Satisfaction and Diversity

Gender

Men were slightly more likely to be satisfied with the service they received from Lincolnshire Police than women with 82.7% of men being satisfied and 8.8% of women.

Disability

Of those which responded to the survey disabled respondents were slightly less likely to be satisfied than non disabled respondents the figure being 76.5% for disabled people and 82.8% for those who did not declare themselves disabled.

Sexual Orientation

82.8% of heterosexual respondents were satisfied with the service they received from Lincolnshire Police compared with 74.1% of Lesbian / gay respondents and 70% of Bisexual respondents.

Ethnicity

It is hard to gain any meaningful statistics from the figures around ethnicity as the numbers of respondents for Black and Mixed Ethnicity are so low who responded to the survey. The only category with anything like meaningful numbers was Asian respondents and these are comparative with the White respondents. White respondents being 82.4% satisfied and 81.8% of Asian respondents being satisfied. As with complaints there are no statistics on satisfaction by Nationality.

Age

16-24 years olds respondents were the least likely to be satisfied with 79.8% being satisfied with the service they received and 65-74 years olds were the most likely to be satisfied with 85% being satisfied with the service they received.

We don’t currently have any satisfaction statistics on religion or belief.
