Welcome to Lincolnshire Police's Equality Information Portal. Here you will find details of how Lincolnshire Police intends to meet its duties under the Equality Act 2010, as well as information that we hold in relation to equalities.

Our General Equality Duty

In October 2010, the new Equality Act introduced a Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires Lincolnshire Police, in the exercise of both our internal and external functions, to have due regard to the need to...

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

Protected Characteristics

The Equality Duty applies to both Police personnel and members of our communities who share 'Protected Characteristics'. There are 9 Protected Characteristics under the Equality Act; Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage and Civil Partnership, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race, Religion or Belief, Sex and Sexual Orientation.

Equality Information

In order to meet our Equality Duty, we are required to publish Equality Information about the Protected Characteristics of people that are affected by our policies and practices. This information can be accessed through the tabs on the left and includes an overview of our activities in these areas, local data (where it is available), and links to other research and documents which provide more information about the how people with Protected Characteristics are affected by policing activities.

Equality Objectives

As well as publishing Equality Information, Lincolnshire Police is required to establish at least one Equality Objective in consultation with people who share Protected Characteristics to address areas of inequality. These Equality Objectives will be part of a four year Equality Plan, in place by April 2012.
